Ron Blank & Associates, Inc.

From our humble beginnings that were sketched out on Ron Blank's mother's kitchen table, a vision was conceptualized for connecting architects and building product manufacturers in a way that had not been done before. Since that moment, RBA has strategically evolved into a multi-platformed suite of services for building product manufacturers and design professionals that aim to connect, educate and energize the professional goals of those who engage them.

  • Course description: Ron Blank & Associates: Total Design and ADA in Restrooms

On average, people use the restroom six times per day. Restrooms in a building largely reflect the design decisions you make. The purpose of this course is to make the case that a comprehensive design approach that integrates ADA design requirements, Universal Design strategies, and sustainable initiatives provides an inherently accessible and healthier restroom space for all users. "Total Design" encompasses all design practices that include a wide spectrum of usage for all people. Isolating these design concepts into labels or "specialties", prevent them from being incorporated into good design practices.

Identify how restrooms in your buildings really impact occupants and your legacy as a designer.

Review 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design for restrooms and their implementation.

Distinguish between minimal accessible design and universal design.

Define the characteristics of Total Design as they apply to the restroom setting.
