  • Course Description: National Trust Conference 2026

    October 22, 2026 - October 24, 2026

The annual National Trust Conference ( with Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) & Indigenous Heritage Circle) is Canada’s largest heritage learning and networking event, with 500+ attendees expected for Waterloo Region, Heritage Futures! Held annually since 1974, the National Trust conference is a vibrant mix of keynote sessions, four concurrent session tracks, field sessions and tours, workshops, and dynamic social networking events. It consistently attracts an exceptionally wide range of people keeping Canada’s heritage places alive: from professionals and planners, to non-profit workers and volunteers, craftspeople, industry representatives, heritage site managers, and policymakers.

The National Trust Conference has become the place where the full spectrum of Canada’s heritage conservation community gathers to network, learn about cutting-edge practice and policy, and be inspired by new perspectives. Connect with your colleagues, meet your next employer, or network with the leading heritage professionals, government decision-makers, heritage NGOs, & influencers at conference sessions & group events. Earn professional learning credits from an expanding roster of professional associations.

The heritage conservation sector in Canada faces a “perfect storm” of social and political pressures. Heritage places are increasingly threatened by fast-tracked development, deregulation, and housing demands, even as rising cultural nationalism highlights their vital role in Canadian identity and economic resilience. At the same time, the sector is advancing reconciliation, addressing inequities in practice, and leading on climate action.

In this period of rapid change, how can the heritage sector shape the future of Canada’s tangible and intangible heritage? How are societal shifts and new technologies transforming conservation and stewardship? What will heritage leadership look like tomorrow?

Canada’s largest heritage learning and networking event will convene 500+ professionals, policymakers, industry and NGO leaders, academics, students, and volunteers. Join this dynamic, annual, cross-sector conversation.

Heritage Futures will bring together bold ideas, practical case studies, and solution-focused dialogue to chart a path forward.
