Ron Blank & Associates, Inc.

From our humble beginnings that were sketched out on Ron Blank's mother's kitchen table, a vision was conceptualized for connecting architects and building product manufacturers in a way that had not been done before. Since that moment, RBA has strategically evolved into a multi-platformed suite of services for building product manufacturers and design professionals that aim to connect, educate and energize the professional goals of those who engage them.

  • Course Description: Ron Blank & Associates: Crafting Resilient Building Envelopes: A Systems Approach to Weather Resistive Barriers

This course covers the systems and components that make up the building envelope and explains how they work together to control the exchange of water, air, condensation, and heat between a building's interior and exterior. Participants will gain insights into specifying products that meet building codes, protect interior spaces from environmental effects, and contribute to the creation of climate resistive buildings. By the end of the course, attendees will have a deeper understanding of how weather resistive barriers play a critical role in strengthening the building envelope and enhancing the resilience of buildings in various climates.

Define the role and importance of weather resistive barriers (WRBs) within the context of the building envelope and climate responsive design, emphasizing their contribution to energy efficiency and resilience.

Identify and interpret key building codes, standards, and testing protocols related to WRBs, including relevant sections of the IBC, IRC, IECC, and ASTM, and apply them to ensure compliance and performance.

Compare various types of WRBs, such as mechanically fastened house wraps, self adhered membranes, and liquid applied barriers, while analyzing their ideal use cases, benefits, limitations, and installation best practices.

Evaluate the integration of WRBs with adjacent building components, such as flashing, insulation, and fenestration systems, to ensure continuous protection against water intrusion, air leakage, and vapor imbalance, while supporting climate resilient and energy efficient design.
