Course Description: AEC Daily: Photoluminescence: Applied Use in Code Compliance and Enhanced Safety
Falls are responsible for more open wounds, fractures, and brain injuries than any other cause of injury. Photoluminescent (PL) exit path markers have proven to provide safe and quick egress in all light conditions for occupants and fail-safe guidance to first responders entering unfamiliar surroundings in the event of an emergency. This course discusses the benefits of PL safety products and the codes and testing standards related to PL way-finding systems.
Summarize the benefits of PL safety products and the codes and testing standards related to PL way-finding systems.
List the 2009/2012 IBC/IFC requirements for path marking, exit enclosures, and exit pathways and which high-rise occupancies are affected by the new requirements.
Describe UL 1994, UL 924 (U.S.), and ULC S572 (Canada) Standards and explain why they are important for luminous egress path markings and exit signs.
List the various advantages of PL path marking and PL exit signs that improve safety and provide cost and design advantages in both new construction and retrofit projects.
